Police BreathalyzerA test

A test

How a breath test goes, from taking the breathalyzer out to the printed slip, for the officer and the player tested.

The officer

Take it out

Use the breathalyzer item. The officer holds the device in the right hand and reads its screen (READY, green light). Using the item again, X, drawing a weapon or getting in a car puts it away.

Start a test

Look at a player on foot and pick Breath test, or look at a car with someone in it and pick Breath test the occupant (on their side of the car). The officer has to be within 2 m.

Wait for an answer

The player is asked first (see below). With consent = false the test just starts.

Hold it to their mouth

The officer walks up and holds the mouthpiece to the player's lips. In a car the player turns to the window and it rolls down; in a high truck (a Sandking) their door opens and they lean out. One breathalyzer_mouthpiece is used per test.

Read the result

Once the breath is in, the officer takes the device back and looks at its screen: ANALYZING, then the reading, with OVER LIMIT under it at or over your limit. X looks away early.

Tear off the slip

The slip prints out of the bottom of the device. The officer tears it off and puts it in their pocket: a breathalyzer_slip item with the test number, the reading and who was tested. Using it holds it up to read.

X stops a test at any time, from either side.

The player tested

  • The question shows in the hint bar: Y to agree, N to refuse. No answer within 20 seconds is a refusal.
  • Blowing: hold E until the bar is full (4 seconds by default). Let go too early and the device says BLOW AGAIN; after three short breaths it says TEST FAILED.
  • The player gets the reading as a notification too.

Players change these keys in Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM. The defaults are in the config (keys).

Where it can't reach

Lorry cabs (Hauler, Phantom and the like) are too high: the officer gets "You can't reach their mouth from here". The same shows when something is in the way of where the officer would stand.
