Lockpicking

Stand at the driver's door of a locked car and press G (or /lockpick), use the lishi_pick item, or pick "Pick the lock" on the door handle with ox_target or qb-target. The player walks up to the lock, the camera moves in close, and a Lishi-style 2-in-1 pick goes into the keyway.

The lock is a real wafer lock: 8 positions, some empty, each wafer cut to one of 4 depths.

Controls

How it plays

With tension on, one wafer binds at a time. Free wafers feel springy and light; the binding one is stiff: the pressure meter climbs and you hear it drag. Once you've felt it, the screen shows how deep it's cut (d1 to d4).

Lift it slowly until it clicks at the shear line. It stays up, the plug gives a hair, and the next wafer binds. When every wafer is set, the plug turns and the door unlocks. There are no keys: hotwire it next.

Picking needs light hands, not speed. The server holds the lock and checks every click, so a modified client can't pick it faster than a person could.

Difficulty

How hard a lock is depends on the car's class: compacts and muscle cars are easy, sports cars hard, super cars and emergency vehicles expert. See Difficulty to change it.

A car keeps the same lock (by its plate) until the server restarts, so whoever decoded it can pick it again faster.

The alarm

A failed attempt always sets off the alarm. After a successful pick, the alarm can still go off when the door is opened, with a chance per vehicle class (classAlarm, defaultAlarm). Police scripts can listen for both: see Events.

Which doors

By default only the driver's door has a lock (doors = { 'dside_f' }). The lock is fitted to every vanilla car's door already. For addon cars, see Fitting locks to cars.
